The Reveal

Besides really getting to know my clients during the entire process, the best part of my job is seeing the whole vision come together and take life. With a young family who loves to be together, it was important to know how they would be using the newly designed room. Entertaining and gathering as a family were the 2 biggies here. Throw some history in and we came together with the perfect plan. Ok, you saw the before right? Well today I'll be showing you the after shots of the basement.

Here's the secret entrance from the main part of the basement into the new room. Which book is it that opens the door, again?

Enter into the newly designed basement...

Welcome!

Welcome!

Who wants to watch a movie?

Who wants to watch a movie?

The space was designed knowing how much time they love to be together as a family. Being together is mostly how they spend their Sunday's, cooking a great meal, sitting down to catch up before another busy week starts up and relaxing in a room that makes them happy. What a great way to be together as a family and what's more important than spending time together eating, laughing and enjoying each others company.

This custom bar was designed by me and constructed by the homeowner, his friends and family.

I can't wait to step up to the bar and ask for a glass of wine, cozy in on the soft sofa and watch a movie!

Now I'm the client!

I started the re-branding of Ingrid Porter Interiors in the fall, which led me really examine the whole website, blog and brand. It's funny, I always feel you are lead to people who are to come into your life at the exact time you need them. Today I have the website and blog I dreamed of, but it wasn't a simple undertaking. Any creative process takes time and money and if you try to rush through, you will end up in a different spot than you had dreamed.

I'm so fortunate to have found aR Studio and web designer Anne Rutter. As the client, I was anxious to get the web design done and up online. But as a good designer knows, things take time. Time to let the designer do her thing, time to let the design sink in, and time to sit back and enjoy the ride.

I'm here today with a great logo to represent my brand, and the website I dreamed of. I'm so glad I trusted the process and the designer. Thank you Anne. (I hope I was a good client!)

Now I need to get to blogging!

Home Tour

Last week I was giving you a little glimpse into a finished project I worked on recently where clients of mine and I designed a Speak Easy in their basement. Today I'm going to show you what goes into a project, the behind the scenes tour of how to design and begin a custom project. Each week we will take a little look at all the pieces and parts of how creatives, like me do their work.

Remember, this is a photo before we started!

Here's a photo of the room BEFORE we started the design. This is your regular ole basement where the girls ran around and danced, watched movies, ate popcorn and had birthday parties.

Here's another shot of the basement BEFORE we started the design. The whole idea came from them visiting a Speak Easy with their friends and thinking how cool it would be to have one in their home. See, every New Year's Eve they throw the most amazing party, so how cool would it be to have this years party in the new space?

Next week we will dive into where to gather inspiration for your newly designed room. Until then check out the pintrest board we formed to gather our ideas here https://www.pinterest.com/nshefrin/speakeasy-ideas/
